Check Services

Check Services are pest control auditors for the food and allied industries, producing technical reports for a number of well-known hotel chains, supermarkets and food manufacturing companies including some of the largest bakeries, mills and cereal manufacturers in the UK.

Brief

To revamp Check Service’s corporate identity. Although Check Services were very attached to their existing logo and didn’t want to completely change it, it did need to be retouched. Corporate Identity was to be strengthened by the development of relevant graphics for promotional materials, business cards and letterheads.

Solution

Rak Design began with the task of retouching the logo. We analysed the inconsistencies in the alignment of the existing logo which make it difficult to reproduce. Then we redrew the logo in six options, ranging from the straightened up logo, to adding a coloured background, to a final option taking the logo 3D. Although Check Services had decided at the outset they didn’t want to make changes to the existing logo, we were pleased to exceed their expectations in presenting six logo options with the company finally choosing the dynamic 3D version. In this way, we managed to maintain the integrity of the existing logo whilst still evolving Check Service’s corporate identity using simple 3D arrow imagery which was extended across promotional materials and letterheads.

Hi Optics

Hioptic are aerial photography specialists who take on photography commissions for clients across the UK. Their crisp and captivating aerial shots are snapped using hovering drones and carefully positioned mast cameras. Founder Jamie Cooper has more than 20 years’ experience in the photography trade with his images widely published in print and broadcast on screen in the UK and USA.

Brief

Although Jamie is a well-established and published photographer, when he came to Rak Design he didn’t have a company or brand established to promote his niche service in aerial photography. Our brief was to create a corporate identity for Jamie’s photography business, including a name and logo which reflected the service and product.

Solution

Rak Design brainstormed company names, looking for words which would reflect the nature of this niche business. We finally settled on Hioptics, which combined the key elements of the service in a catchy and effective term. The first logo which we created for Hioptics drew heavily from the flying drone camera used in much of Jamie's work. It was depicted as an illustration of a camera with wings, conjuring up a mythical ‘eye in the sky.’ Hioptic needed another logo which captured the mast photography element of the business. We created a much more solid, modern version of the logo, retaining the wings as a reference to the height of the camera.

Brief

To design a brand identity that reflected the concept of the company visual on promotional materials.

Solution

To create a simpler understanding of what 'Buying group power' does, we have done this by using simple yet effective illustrations shows that the buying power separately is expensive but buying in a group is more cost effective. The logo looks at first a splat of ink, but looking more closely you can see silhouettes of people in a group which is clever with this we then went to put this onto business cards, letterheads and compliments slips.

This growing company has sought out innovative ways to deliver pharmacy care to its customers and has explored international and online trading. Weston Pharmacy offers an online pharmaceutical service where patients can fill NHS and private prescriptions on the website and have them delivered straight to their front door, bringing pharmacy services straight to the customer.

Brief

Weston Pharmacy came to us requiring a full corporate identity package to build its brand and establish the client’s growing business in the pharmacy and healthcare market. Rak Design was to create a logo and develop the corporate identity for consistent and instantly recognisable branding across stationery, signage and promotional materials. This new logo must represent healthcare and pharmacy services.

Solution

Rak Design set out by developing a logo which would form the cornerstone of Weston Pharmacy’s new corporate identity. The final logo design incorporates two universally recognisable symbols; a cross plaster for injury and a butterfly for regeneration. This logo is visually very effective in communicating pharmaceutical services as well as being simple to reproduce in print. Rak Design used the new logo to design stationery, shop front signs, in-house promotional materials and finally a new website. The Weston Pharmacy brand is now consistent and easily recognisable whether in a high street store or online.

Lorentz

Lorentz are a German manufacturer of solar powered water pumping solutions well established in the international market. Their solar pumps are built for off-grid, rural and often hostile environments which require reliable and simple solutions. By harnessing the power of the sun, Lorentz are able to bring fresh, clean water to communities and individuals across the world for drinking, irrigation and responsible leisure applications. With over 20 years’ experience in pioneering design and manufacture of solar pumps, Lorentz are global market leaders in this important area and active in over 120 countries.

Brief

Lorentz came to Rak Design needing help with its global corporate identity. This manufacturing company already had a logo and Lorentz was keen to maintain the integrity of the existing design, which incorporated its company name and sun emblem, but this needed subtle redevelopment to iron out some reproduction issues. Lorentz already had a corporate identity in place, however with footholds in so many countries across the world the corporate brand often became diluted or lost. This international company require a mechanism to reinforce a consistent corporate identity across borders.

Solution

Rak Design redeveloped the logo, taking out the fine black lines from the sun emblem which disappeared when the logo was reduced in size. We softened the edges of the rays and left the spaces in the image white, whilst tilting the whole logo slightly. The softening and angling of the logo creates a much more contemporary presence. In order to facilitate a consistent and accessible corporate identity across borders, Rak Design developed an in-house corporate style guide for Lorentz. This guide clearly sets out correct and incorrect use of colour schemes, logo use and positioning, strapline, identity angles, and application logos. Designed to be an easy-to-use reference for corporate identity in the international market, the guide has enabled Lorentz to create consistency in its global branding.
